I can’t remember the last time I wrote on a chalkboard. OK, it was just this morning, since I’m now the new proud owner of a cute little chalkboard. And I made it myself.
All I did was buy a frame at The Goodwill and buy a can of Rustoleum chalkboard spray paint. I spray painted the frame white and then sanded the edges for that nice worn look. Then, I sprayed the glass insert with two coats of chalkboard spray paint, letting the first coat dry completely before doing the second coat. Insert said insert into frame. Drive all over town looking for chalk because, apparently, this is one difficult item to find.
Seriously, Hobby Lobby had a pack of 10 boxes of chalk (way too much for my purposes, unless I start teaching my dog Fritz some Algebra), two Dollar Stores didn’t carry it, and neither did Target. I finally found a box of good ol’ Crayola white chalk at Wally World.
Here is the “Before” shot of my 99 cent Goodwill frame. It really helps to look for frames with ornate decoration/molding as this makes for a more interesting look once you paint it.

I said it on another post this week and I’ll say it again…I love this idea and I hope to be successful in making a chalkboard soon! Very nice result you got!
Love the chalkboard…I guess I got lucky when I bought my chalk as I tried Wally World first…..I just picked up two more frames at GW this weekend !

So spraying chalkboard paint over glass worked? I heard that it didn’t. You dog doesn’t want to learn algebra…how short sighted of him/her.
Nifty! I am going to make a chalkboard one of these days!
It looks nice! I love having a chalkboard around. Very cute project!

Ashley, that is just too stinkin’ cute, girl! I love how that turned out. I have yet to make myself a chalkboard, but all you girls who have done them are inspiring. Looks great and you did the frame so pretty.
LOL at finding the chalk!
LOVE the chalkboard. I need to try that. The frame is so pretty. Great job. I also really like the saying. Hugs, Marty

I like your chalkboard and the saying. It should be our motto for every day.
Totally great!! I think I like what you wrote as much as the project! Happy MM!
I double puffy heart LOVE chalkboard paint !! it is amazing stuff! i even painted a ceramic plate with it & hung it out on my back porch!
I love it! I especially love the look and curves on that frame. I haven’t gotten into this chalkboard paint yet, though I know I’m missing out on some fun. This is quite a transformation for sure. And a cheap one!

I love your message on your lovely new chalkboard!
Very cute chalkboard
I love how your chalkboard turned out. I still need to make mine. I have the chalkboard paint, and the item to make into a chalkboard. It’s just that I am the queen of procrastination. And thanks for the heads up on where to find the chalk. That I still need.
That is just adorable!
Hello Ashley – I read your post yesterday and it inspired me to find a frame to do my very own chalkboard for my kitchen too! So today I searched and searched – finally found one at TJ Maxx. The design isn’t as cool as yours, but I like it and can’t wait to transform it. Thank you for the great inspiration!
Blessings,
Marie
I have seen this a number of places, but I have never tried it! Maybe this summer!! You have a darling blog, this was my first time visiting!
If you think karma is what got you that bench I need to find a little old lady to help QUICK! :)
Hi Ashley,
thank you for recommending the true blood books! I am now reading book no. 3! I love them… I heard about the series before and I was tempted to buy the books but I really hated the book covers… they reminded me of child books, but yikes! they are definitely adult books :0) thank you!
have a nice day, greetings Mira!
I check your blog almost everyday…and Im excited to see how those rainbow cupcakes turned out!!! POST PICS!! Please ;o)
